Gabriel Álvarez León is a Colombian artist born on January 12, 1980, in Barranquilla, the capital of Atlántico. At the age of six, he moved with his family to Medellín after his parents’ separation—a experience that would profoundly shape his artistic path.

He grew up in Medellín during one of the city’s most violent periods, amid the conflict between the Medellín cartel, led by Pablo Escobar, and the Cali cartel. Due to the insecurity, he spent most of his childhood confined at home, which led him to discover his passion for art. From a very young age, he devoted his time to drawing, painting, and developing his creativity, honing skills that would make him stand out over the years.

He studied Fashion Design at the Pontifical Bolivarian University, a program which, although not directly focused on the plastic arts, provided him with a solid foundation in drawing, proportion, and the aesthetics of the human body. This knowledge was fundamental to the development of his unique artistic style.

Gabriel feels a deep fascination for Africa and its wildlife. His first trip to the continent left a profound mark on him; he was amazed to see animals in their natural habitat, awakening an emotional connection that is reflected in many of his works ever since.

His art is characterized by a deep emotional charge and the use of various techniques such as collage, color theory, abstract art, and manipulation of perspective. He plays with light, shadow, and textures to create immersive experiences that invite the viewer to emotionally connect with each piece and give it their own meaning.

In addition to painting, Gabriel also works with ceramics and glass, constantly exploring new forms of artistic expression. His eclectic style and narrative approach have made his work stand out in the contemporary art scene.
